The BITS-PILANI QUIZZING FORUM!

Significance

This is a Henry Cartier Bresson pic of Nehru as he about to announce the death of gandhi at Birla Bhawan. Now many of you have given the answers as "the light is gone" speech. The thing is, as far as I know, and correct me if I am wrong I think he delivered THAT speech on the AIR. This pic, he merely announces G's death.
So it was cracked by Rachit, Kuttapan and Tibrewal.

Connect

As usual, let's call the pics A, B and C. A and B are bands. C is a group of people who are more of remixers (they remix high-profile songs) despite having their own recording career. (Sorry about size of pic C, that's the biggest I could find)

Connect.

Toughie there I guess (since there was hardly anything to start guesswork with)

A. The Thompson Twins
B. Tin Tin
C. Tin Tin Out

All names were inspired by characters in Tintin comics.

Nikhil identified B. Good work.

Identify the breed of dog.

Here's another helpful picture.

This is a komondor, a breed of hungarian sheep dog. The second picture is the cover of the Beck album, Odelay. Cracked by Aravind, Animesh and Ameya "Ah! Finally" Sarda. Half a point to Rachit, or maybe half a million, if he so wishes.

Loads of love,

Hear Ye Hear Ye

Hello Quizzers

This recent month has had an overwhelming response as far as the hits(especially from the repeating visitors) to the blog is concerned.
Coming straight to the point. Some of you have expressed concern over how the comment system works.
Let me explain it in detail:
This blog has two sets of people. Contributors and the rest. Both of them actively answer the questions. Comment moderation doesn't work for contributors, hence they are advised before hand to comment using the rot13 encryption system, where as the rest of the comments are moderated by the webmasters. So unless the answer to a question is posted, the question is still open to all. For most of the questions the answers are posted within 2-3 days MAX (for some of our contributors are working professionals). Any other ambiguity regarding anything at all can be clarified using the contact us tab at the top. And above all, any inconvenience is regretted.

Okay, lots of people got Eichmann, which is partly right. However, the exact connect is a book by Isser Harel ( The second pic. A lot of people guessed Wiesenthal, which is actually a brill guess), the then Mossad Chief under whom Eichmann's capture was carried out. The book is called House on Garibaldi Street (if someone can get me a link to the e-book, I'll treat you to lime juice when you come to Bangalore, I promise!) the movie poster of which is the first pic. The third pic of course is Eichmann's Argentine passport in the name of Ricardo Klement.

Bravo Nikhil. Persistence pays ;)

Question of the day

Connect the three pictures. The third pic, though part of the connect also is pout there so as to put you on the right track. (Ok ok agreed, bad one)

AAnswer:NIKHIL..god level answer. The answer is in fact Solan, the little hill station in Himachal. Its the ancestral home to Salman Rushdie. The movie Kya Kehna is also based in Solan. And like the said the Kalka Simla Toy train was just given as a hint to put you on the right track(solan is one of the major station in between)

Identify

Identify the caricature with the broom, and what he's doing. :)

Indeed, that is Vladimir Lenin, "cleaning the world of filth", to quote a Communist poster from the 1920s.

Nikhil, 'Vijay', Anand Shankar and Kuttappan (namesake?! :) ), good answers! Half a point to Rishabh.

It's funny. It's cute. But here's what I really think about the theory of evolution: It's not real. It is not the way we got here. In fact, the life you see on this planet is really just a list of creatures Godhas allowed to live. We are not creations of random chance. We are not accidents. There is a God, a Creator, who made you and me. We were made in His image, which separates us from all other creatures.
By the way, without Him, I don't have any power. But with Him, the Bible tells me, I really can do all things—and so can you

Answer
as has been guessed right
It is inimitable Chuck Norris on the chuck norris fact :-"There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live."

Simple - Whats special about this stamp?

Not for googlers...

1. Identify the currency and the funda behind it.. Which organisation n all that

2. While nobody seems to know the phrase's exact origin, Mavens' Word of the Day offers an interesting theory. In the late 1800s when a X broke, the remaining one was often used to bundle items. This thrifty gesture may have contributed to the phrase's meaning and popularity.Identify X

3. It is often claimed that the term originally referred to a law that limited the maximum thickness of a stick with which it was permissible for a man to beat his wife, but this has been fully discredited.( but what the heck.. still take a shot.. )

Answer time:
1. This is the global RAAM currency. Issued by the Global country for world peace(maharishi mahesh yogi)
2.Shoestring budget
3.The rule of thumb

Brilliant crack by Aravind, Ashok who got all three. where as almost everyone else got the rule of thumb one.

Let's call the pics A, B, C and D from top to bottom. A few google-able details have been obviated, making the question tougher. Identify A and C. A created B. C founded D inspired by A's B. Now, once you get your ABCDs in order, getting the connect is trivial.

The connect is chess-boxing.

A is Enki Bilal, an French Cartoonist who in his science fiction graphic novel Froid-Equateur (B) came up with chess-boxing as part of the plot. C is a chap called Iepe Rubingh who founded the World Chess-Boxing Organization or WCBO, (inspired by Bilal's idea) the logo of which is D.

Nikhil got this one and Lakshmy pretty much got it too ...way to go! :)

Not too easy

Connect the first two pictures. And then connect that to the third picture(album). The second connect that I am looking for is specific to this album.

Cracked by Kutts
Quoting him
"Regular Pink Floyd fundae, huh? ;)

Okay, The connect is Naomi Watts. She lent her voice in Babe:Pig in the City, and acted in The Ring. Her dad is famous for the maniacal laughter you hear in Brain Damage, which is part of the Dark Side of the Moon album."
Great work man, but then you probably knew it anyways.

IDENTIFY

i want the name and connect it wit the superstar RAJINIKANTH

This was a tricky one and only one person managed to crack it fully.
Quoting Nishant "The Building is the Dancing House in Prague, Czech Republic. It is designed by Frank Gehry, who also designed the Guggenheim Museum at Bilbao. A song from the movie Sivaji the Boss is picturised at the Bilbao Guggenheim."

Easy one yet again. The connect is obviously Jules Verne.
1st pic is The Jules Verne ATV
2nd pic is of Jules Verne himself
3rd pic is the route taken in Around the world in 80 days.
Cracked by everyone, though a lot of people were unsure of the first pic.

This is the Omega Speedmaster, the first watch to be worn on the moon and from what I hear is nearly Rs 1.5 LakhS. CrACKED BY Everyone(Chittappa half points this time, as if it matters)
